The Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria reported on Tuesday that ticket sales in the country’s cinemas generated N378 million in August.
Mr Ope Ajayi, National President of CEAN, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to Ajayi, the figure represents a 28% increase over the N294 million realized in August 2021.
He did, however, report a 19% decrease in ticket sales in August, compared to N471 million in July.
“Over NGN378 million was earned at the box office by the 37 films shown in August.”
“13 Hollywood films accounted for 72.4 percent, while 16 Nollywood films accounted for slightly more than 22 percent.”
According to him, the top five grossing films in August were: Thur: Love and Thunder, Bullet Train, Beast, and Hey you! and the Surpet League
“Thor: Love and Thunder remained the highest-grossing, with N80 million in the month, bringing its lifetime revenue at the Nigerian box office to more than N350 million as of August 31st,” he said.
“The month of September 2022 features two major blockbusters: ‘The Woman King’ and ‘Brotherhood.’
“Both have the potential to make September 2022 the best month for the Nigerian box office since its inception, with revenues expected to reach N700 million, despite the high rate of rainfall recorded in several cities, particularly Lagos.”
“It’s going to be a little merrier in
The legendary Viola Davies will deliver a brilliant performance in Sony’s new high-paced epic drama/thriller, ‘The Woman King,’ in September.
“So, if green screen fans thought they saw action at its best last month, wait until you see what the female warriors of ancient Dahomey have in store,” he said. (NAN)
