One injured as gas explosion rocks Lagos market
A gas explosion occurred at Orisunmibare Market in Lagos State's Orile-Iganmu area on Sunday afternoon, but the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service quickly brought the situation under control.The blast, which happened around 2:13 p.m. at a gas retail outlet with multiple cylinders, was contained by firefighters from Sari-Iganmu and Ilupeju stations, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops. Director Margaret Adeseye confirmed that no lives were lost, although one person suffered a minor hand injury.
In a separate incident, a 33,000-litre Premium Motor Spirit tanker spilled fuel along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway near Berger Car Depot after colliding with several vehicles. The prompt response of the Fire and Rescue Service prevented a major disaster. Fire crews from Ajegunle and Ijegun-Egba stations were deployed, and recovery operations were ongoing into Sunday evening.
Adeseye reassured the public that the agency remains vigilant in preventing fire outbreaks and responding to emergencies across Lagos State.
