Wike unveils Abuja’s plan to become a world-class smart city
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has highlighted Abuja's "Smart City Vision" as a strategic initiative driven by investments in five key areas: Urban Mobility, Sustainability, Public Safety, Digital Governance, and Economic Empowerment.
Speaking at the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors' Forum in Dubai, Wike disclosed that Abuja is collaborating with international agencies and private sector actors on projects such as Smart Water Metering with JICA and intelligence Traffic Lights with Chinese support.
The Minister emphasized Abuja's commitment to leveraging public-private partnerships and city-to-city exchanges to accelerate innovation. He noted that the city's smart city vision aims to enhance service delivery, create jobs, and attract tech companies.
Wike highlighted the importance of data in shaping opportunities for Abuja's youth, referencing Nigeria's upcoming National Employment Database. He reaffirmed that Abuja's transformation into a smart and sustainable city prioritizes citizens' needs, aiming to build a safer, more inclusive, and prosperous environment.
The Minister's presentation was part of a forum that brought together global Mayors and city leaders to discuss urban development and smart city initiatives.
