Why I embarked on GWR for most vision boards created – Dr Shogo
Peak performance coach and leadership consultant Oluwashogo Oyeniyi, popularly known as Dr Shogo, says he set out to break the Guinness World Record for the most people making vision boards simultaneously—both online and at a single venue—to reshape global perceptions of Nigeria and Africa. On November 1, Oyeniyi hosted the record‑attempt event themed “Dream It. Plan It. Live It.” at The Podium, Lekki, Lagos. According to the Guinness World Records website, 445 participants took part. In an interview, he explained that the project aimed not only to set a record but also to challenge long‑held narratives by showing that Africans can turn ideas into concrete achievements.
“The event sought to increase awareness about the role of vision boards in achieving personal and collective goals,” he said. “My inspiration stemmed from a conviction that Africa—especially Nigeria—has a vast pool of untapped potential.” He added, “Setting the record was a way to amplify that message globally and demonstrate that Nigerians are not just dreamers but doers who can transform ideas into tangible results.”
Oyeniyi noted that the category did not exist before his attempt, making it the first of its kind worldwide. “We didn’t just break a record; we created one. It has become a national inspiration point—a proof that excellence is still possible out of Nigeria,” he remarked.
He credited his ability to mobilise participants to years of building a strong network through his work as a peak performance expert. “I have facilitated trainings for organisations and done one‑on‑one coaching. We combined all these networks, leveraging credibility and the trust the brand has built over time.”
The participants, he said, “did not just come for an event; they came to be part of a vision that represents growth, faith and the power of collective transformation. It was a seamless blend of digital innovation, emotional intelligence and leadership coordination.”
Oyeniyi’s long‑term goal is for governments, schools and organisations to adopt vision creation as a development tool to boost productivity, improve planning and accelerate growth. “When individuals and organisations learn to see before they seize, they align their actions with purpose. This is my larger vision. It is the beginning of a movement—to help people and institutions move from intention to impact, and from vision to visible results,” he concluded.
