Veteran broadcaster Christopher Kolade dies at 92
Christopher Kolade, a respected diplomat, broadcaster, and statesman, has passed away at the age of 92.His family has released a statement confirming his death.
“We are grateful for his remarkable life dedicated to faith and service and appreciate God's numerous blessings,” the statement indicates.
The release mentioned that the statesman peacefully passed on Wednesday, October 8.
Born in 1932, Kolade held the position of Director General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, being active in Nigeria's broadcasting field from 1960 to 1978.
He received his early education in Nigeria before continuing his higher studies at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
Kolade later served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2007.
In the business sector, Kolade was the CEO and chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, often sharing his views on corporate governance and social responsibility in various boardrooms.
Prior to his diplomatic assignment in the UK, he was part of the faculty at Lagos Business School, where he taught corporate governance, leadership, and human resource management from 1995 to 2002.
After his time as High Commissioner, he returned to Lagos Business School to continue his teaching and research endeavors. In February 2009, he was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Pan-African University.
Kolade was a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Institute of Directors, the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, the Nigerian Institute of Management (where he held the presidency from 1985 to 1988), and the Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, leading as its president from 1988 to 1994.
