Unknown assailants abduct six farmers in Osun; lone individual manages to escape captors
Gunmen have kidnapped six individuals hailing from Oyan, a town located within the Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State. The victims were taken while en route back to Oyan from Aworo village, where their farmlands are situated. The abduction transpired on Monday at approximately 5:30 pm.
Nevertheless, a reliable source conveyed that one of those abducted, a local chief from the Oyan community, managed to break free from the captors in the early hours of Tuesday.
As of Tuesday morning, hunters, police personnel, other security personnel, and volunteers returned to the vicinity near the abduction site, which is in proximity to Kwara State.
"At approximately 2 AM, a female chief from Oyan managed to flee from the abductors, while the rest remain in captivity as of Tuesday evening," the source reported.
The state's representative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke, verified the occurrence and additionally stated that an ongoing search and rescue mission is in progress to locate those who remain captive.
Adeleke stated, "Last night (Monday), six individuals, among them a chief from Oyan, were forcefully abducted in the Aworo/Asi vicinity (Ila Road) of the Odo Otin North Local Council Development Area."
"However, a female chief from the group successfully fled at approximately 2 AM on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Presently, the kidnappers retain custody of the remaining five individuals.
"Both security agencies and local hunters from the vicinity have been mobilized to initiate a search and rescue operation."
