UNILORIN expels 5, suspends 14 for exam fraud, theft

The University of Ilorin in Kwara State has expelled or rusticated 19 students, including six final-year students, for various offenses. According to a statement by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, the Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole (SAN), approved the expulsion/rustication following recommendations from the Students’ Disciplinary Committee during its 220th and 221st meetings. 

The offenses ranged from misconduct, theft, examination malpractices, hostel bed-space racketeering, and extortion to assault, beating a fellow student, and admission racketeering. Penalties for these offenses include rustication for either one semester or one academic session, as well as expulsion.

The students impacted were across different academic levels, including 100, 200, 300, and 400 levels.

As per the statement, five students faced expulsion from the university due to alleged involvement in examination malpractice and theft, while 14 others received rustication for either one semester or an entire academic session.

The expelled students, as outlined in the statement, include Amatokwu Evans from the Department of Art Education, Nwachukwu Chinedu Joshua from the Department of Biochemistry, Oshinboluro Temitope Joshua from the Mathematics Department, Sulaimon Mayowa from Biochemistry, and Okanle Oluwatimileyin Samuel from the Physiotherapy Department.

The expelled students were found guilty of alleged involvement in examination malpractices, theft, hostel bed-space racketeering and extortion, as well as admission racketeering and extortion.

Ojelabi Ibukunoluwa Micheal from Anatomy
Okeke Ruth Chinecherem from Performing Arts.
