UK PM faces crisis as top aides resign successively
Following the abrupt resignations of two of his most senior advisers, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom is under increasing pressure.
The director of communications for Downing Street, Tim Allan, resigned a day after Morgan McSweeney, the chief of staff, left.
During Starmer's attempted "reset" in September of last year, Allan joined No. 10 and stated: "I have decided to stand aside to allow a new No. 10 team to be built." I hope the PM and his group have the best possible outcome.
Allan was a close associate of Lord Mandelson and a former deputy press secretary under Tony Blair. He brought documents to Downing Street in December that showed a "comprehensive" strategy for 2026 and a "strong start in January."

Loyalists of Starmer have cautioned against threats to leadership. "I think this is a make-or-break moment and the public will not forgive us if we make the wrong choice by turning on the Prime Minister," stated Labour MP Jess Asato. Anyone who believes that a magician is lurking in the shadows hasn't learned anything from the turmoil of the last administration.

When discussing McSweeney's departure, Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden stated that Starmer has his "complete support," saying, "I feel Morgan himself was probably not told the full facts about what's emerged in the last couple of weeks."
Another blow to Starmer's government comes with Allan's departure. He changed his WhatsApp profile to read, "Out of Office: Gone Golfing," shortly after he resigned.
