UBA announces retirement of four executive directors
United Bank for Africa Plc has announced the upcoming retirement of four Executive Directors, which will take effect on January 1, 2026.
This information was shared in a notice signed by Group Company Secretary Bili Odum and submitted to the Nigerian Exchange on Friday.
UBA indicated that the retirement is due to the completion of their terms.
“United Bank for Africa Plc (‘UBA’ or ‘the Bank’) hereby informs the Nigerian Exchange Limited about the retirement of the following Executive Directors, effective January 1, 2026, following their tenure completion,” the institution stated.
The Executive Directors retiring include:
Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Muyiwa Akinyemi; Executive Director, Mrs. Abiola Bawuah; Executive Director, Mr. Alex Alozie; and Executive Director, Mrs. Sola Yomi-Ajayi.
Group Chairman Tony Elumelu expressed his gratitude to the departing executives for their years of dedicated service and noteworthy contributions to the bank’s development.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the retiring Executive Directors for their dedicated service, unwavering commitment, and support to UBA. Each individual has played a crucial role in the growth and success of UBA Group. On behalf of the Board, I thank them for their contributions and commend their impact. They will continue to be valued members of the UBA family and lasting ambassadors of the values and standards we uphold,” he stated.
The announcement also indicated that UBA has appointed three new Executive Directors, pending approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Emmanuel Lamptey – Executive Director, Digital Banking; Tosin Adewuyi – Executive Director, Corporate Banking; and Chidi Okpala – Executive Director, UBA Nigeria.
Lamptey has over 25 years of extensive, multinational experience across retail and corporate banking, asset management, securities brokerage, pensions, insurance, and microfinance, with exposure in more than 30 African countries.
He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK), and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
Adewuyi has over 25 years of experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, including 15 years in senior management positions in London and Lagos. His expertise includes structured trade finance, corporate and investment banking, debt capital markets, and correspondent banking.
He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, an alumnus of Wharton Business School, and obtained a BA (Hons) in Economics and Accounting from the University of Manchester.
Okpala previously held the position of Executive Director for Payments, Group Integration, and Strategy at Heirs Holdings.
He has over 20 years of banking experience, specializing in payments, financial services innovation, and corporate strategy.
He earned a B.Sc. in Finance, an MBA in Banking and Finance, and an MSc in Leadership and Strategy from London Business School, where he is a Sloan Fellow.
