Tunde Bakare Tells Tinubu, “Mr President, Kill Corruption, Not Nigerians”

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Senior Pastor of the Citadel Global Community Church (formerly known as the Latter Rain Church), has voiced his perspective on the removal of fuel subsidies and corruption within the Nigerian system. While acknowledging the impact of the subsidy removal on Nigerians, Bakare emphasized that his concern lies primarily with the corruption plaguing the nation.

During a recent State of the Nation broadcast held at the church's auditorium in Lagos, Bakare expressed his viewpoint on the economic challenges and also criticized the proposed military intervention in the Niger Republic by ECOWAS.

Bakare acknowledged the importance of addressing corruption but stressed that the Nigerian government should refrain from exacerbating the hardships faced by citizens. He directed his message to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to lead a genuine fight against corruption, foster reconciliation, and promote unity within the country.

In addressing the harsh economic conditions resulting from subsidy removal, Bakare emphasized that combating corruption should be the priority rather than imposing hardships on the people. He urged President Tinubu to focus on addressing the root causes of corruption and recovering misappropriated funds, rather than inflicting additional burdens on Nigerians.

Bakare further criticized the detention of prominent figures such as the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa. He questioned the government's motivations behind these actions and warned against selective application of justice.

He reminded the government of its responsibility to uphold democracy and ensure that security agencies are not used against perceived opponents. Bakare emphasized the need to address historical grievances and promote unity, urging the President to use his authority for the betterment of the Nigerian people.

In conclusion, Bakare called on President Tinubu to rise above vendetta, fight against corruption, and unite the nation. He highlighted that courage should be used to heal wounds, ensure justice, and create an atmosphere of reconciliation and unity across all regions of Nigeria.
