Tinubu hails Pate, Makanju on Devex Power 50 inclusion

Two well-known Nigerians have received congratulations from President Bola Tinubu for being included in the Devex Power 50 list for 2026.

The honour honours significant individuals influencing world progress.

In a statement issued on Friday, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, made the announcement.

The 50 international leaders, organisations, and projects included Anna Adeola Makanju, Vice President for Global Impact at OpenAI, and Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.

Notable figures like President John Mahama of Ghana are also on the list.

According to President Tinubu, their accomplishment is a source of pride for the country.

"Nigeria is proud to have Prof. Pate and Ms. Makanju on the Devex Power 50 list," he said. It demonstrates the breadth of talent in our country and among Nigerians living abroad who are still making significant contributions to the advancement of the world.

The annual Devex Power 50 list highlights the people and organisations that are significantly influencing the course of world development.

Former World Bank Global Director for Health, Nutrition, and Population Prof. Pate received recognition for his efforts to increase Nigerians' access to healthcare.

His efforts focus strongly on strengthening domestic production of medical products.

The list also acknowledged his broader contributions to reforming international health systems.
It characterised him as a major voice on the continent and a well-known person in the field of global health.

At OpenAI, Anna Makanju is in charge of governance, policy, and outreach worldwide.

She received recognition for her impact at the nexus of global development and artificial intelligence.

She has previously worked for former US President Joe Biden as a Special Advisor.

According to Devex, she is largely influencing how next-generation AI systems will impact global development.

This includes her work on safety frameworks and AI policies with governments.

Both were urged by President Tinubu to continue their dedication to greatness.

"As their work continues to advance development efforts across the world, I encourage them to remain steadfast in their pursuits and to keep raising the bar," he continued.
