Tinubu accepts minister Nnaji’s resignation amid forgery allegations

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has agreed to the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following allegations made against him.

Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, submitted his resignation in a letter to the President on Tuesday, expressing his appreciation for the chance to serve the country.

In the letter, Nnaji mentioned that he had become a victim of "malicious blackmail" from political rivals, which led to his decision to resign.

Nnaji reportedly explained his reason for stepping down, stating, “It has been a tremendous privilege to serve in your administration, but recent occurrences have turned me into a target of continuous political assaults and misinformation. Therefore, I have chosen to resign to safeguard the integrity of your government.”

President Tinubu acknowledged the resignation of the minister, praised him for his efforts toward national development, and wished him well in his future endeavors.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, verified the acceptance of the resignation in a statement released on Tuesday: “The President expresses his gratitude to Mr. Geoffrey Nnaji for his contributions to the country and extends best wishes for his future pursuits.”
