Three People Die in Fire Accident with Commercial Vehicle in Lagos

On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred on Lagos State’s Lekki expressway, resulting in the loss of three lives when a commercial bus, with the license plate MUS 753 YD, caught fire.

This information was disclosed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in a statement posted on its Facebook page on the same day.

The statement also mentioned that the remains of the deceased individuals have been moved to the nearest morgue for necessary procedures.

According to the statement, "The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, deployed its Response Team to the scene of a car accident on Sunday, 12th November 2023, at Sandfill Bus-stop, inward Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island.

Upon the team's arrival, it was discovered that a commercial bus with the registration number MUS 753 YD was engulfed in fire. Further investigation revealed that the bus caught fire due to reckless driving.

Unfortunately, the three passengers trapped in the bus were burnt to death. The belongings were packed and handed over to SEHMU for immediate transit to the morgue. The bus was recovered off the road and moved to Maroko Police Station."

LASEMA boss, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed concern about reckless driving on Lagos roads and urged drivers to exercise caution and avoid drinking while driving.

"The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, while sympathizing with the families of the deceased, calls on motorists to drive with caution and refrain from speeding.

He further laments that commuter drivers are often in the habit of driving recklessly and consuming alcohol while driving. Therefore, he advises everyone to drive with care and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey to avoid the loss of lives and properties associated with this menace," concluded the statement.
