The Governor of Ekiti State plans to evaluate the performance of commissioners after a six-month per
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced his intention to evaluate the performance of his commissioners after their first six months in office. This announcement was made during a work plan review meeting with commissioners and permanent secretaries from various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Governor Oyebanji clarified that the assessment would focus on each commissioner's ability to effectively execute their work plans in alignment with the administration's development agenda. He emphasized his commitment to innovative governance and expressed his disapproval of adhering to outdated methods.
"I stated during the Exco meeting that we won't conduct business as usual. We must avoid continuing with outdated approaches, or we'll make no progress in the next three years," Oyebanji declared.
He reminded the commissioners that the performance bond they signed upon taking office was already in effect, leaving no room for subpar performance. Oyebanji took the opportunity to meet personally with heads of MDAs, particularly in light of recent ministry restructuring, to review and approve work plans, address uncertainties, and provide clarity.
The governor urged the heads of MDAs to develop strategic plans that would facilitate comprehensive development in the state and ensure that the people could reap the benefits of democracy. He also emphasized the importance of forming collaborative relationships with successful counterparts in other states to replicate productive policies in Ekiti.
While reassuring them of his administration's commitment to providing all necessary support for the MDAs to fulfill their mandates, the Governor emphasized that his administration would closely monitor the activities of all Commissioners and their respective MDAs, maintaining a continuous assessment of progress.
Accompanied by key officials such as the Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Asubiaro; the Head of Service, Sunday Komolafe; Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Akintunde Oyebode; and the Head of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), Moyo Ekundayo, Governor Oyebanji conducted the work plan review session with the Commissioners.
On the first day of the review, the Ministries covered included the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, the Ministry of Youth Development, and the Ministry of Special Duties, Regional Development, and Intergovernmental Affairs.
This review process will extend into the next week and ultimately result in the inclusion of all approved work plans, programs, and projects in the 2024 budget.
