The Arraignment of Emefiele On New Charges Has Been Delayed.
The scheduled arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), encountered a setback at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Thursday.
Despite Emefiele's presence, the araignment could not proceed due to the absence of the second defendant, Saadat Yaro.
Mohammed Abubakar, the Counsel to the Federal Government and the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, informed Justice Hamza Muazu that Mrs. Saadat Yaro had fallen ill in the morning, leading to her nonattendance.
Apologizing to the court, Abubakar requested a new date for the arraignment.
Akinlolu Kehinde, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who was representing Emefiele, did not object to the adjournment request.
As a result, Justice Muazu rescheduled the arraignment for August 23.
The Department of State Service (DSS) operatives, who had brought Emefiele to court with heightened security, returned him to their custody.
Further details will be provided later.
