Tesla dethroned as world’s best-selling EV maker
Tesla has lost its title as the leading electric vehicle manufacturer globally.
The US carmaker faced a tough year, filled with worries about CEO Elon Musk's political activities and growing competition overseas, resulting in a decrease in sales for the second year in a row.
Tesla reported delivering 1.64 million vehicles in 2025, a 9 percent decline compared to the prior year.
Its competitor from China, BYD, which sold 2.26 million vehicles last year, has now claimed the position of the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world.
Between October and December, Tesla recorded sales of 418,227 vehicles, falling short of the 440,000 anticipated by analysts from FactSet.
The disappointing results may have been influenced in part by the end of a $7,500 (£5,500) tax credit, which the Trump administration phased out at the close of September.
In spite of these challenges, Tesla's stock rose about 11 percent by the end of 2025.
Investors are optimistic that Elon Musk can fulfill his vision of establishing the company as a frontrunner in robotaxi services and increasing consumer acceptance of humanoid robots capable of performing basic tasks in homes and workplaces.
