Students Ambush and Assault Teacher for Preventing Cheating in Exam

Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta, where a teacher was assaulted.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at Isanbi Comprehensive High School in Ilisan-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.

The Ogun chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) is calling for justice for Shonuga.

Felix Agbesanwa, the Chairman of ASUSS in the state, expressed concerns about the safety of teachers in the region.

"The incident has been verified, and I have received a briefing. Our stance is clear – any student who resorts to violence against their teacher will face legal consequences. We will not waver on this position. It doesn't matter if they are Ogun Teach teachers or permanent teachers; a teacher is a teacher and must be respected."

During the unified examination for SS 1 Art class students, Shonuga caught Ashimi Adebanjo, an 18-year-old student, cheating and subsequently confiscated his paper.

Ashimi and his gang, feeling aggrieved for being caught, ambushed the teacher at the school gate after closing hours and physically assaulted him.

During the attack, it was reported that Kazeem Adelaja, one of the students, allegedly struck Shonuga's head with a stick while others joined in the beating.

Following the incident, Shonuga promptly filed a formal report regarding the assault at Remo Police Division. The police have taken action and arrested ten suspects in connection with the incident.

The suspects have already been arraigned in court to face charges related to the assault.
