Solid minerals ministry surpasses N50bn 2025 IGR target
The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has generated more than N50 billion in Internally Generated Revenue for 2025, significantly exceeding the N38 billion recorded in 2024.
The Minister, Mr. Dele Alake, announced this impressive accomplishment on Friday during the official launch of the One-Gov Cloud digitisation project at the Mining Cadastre Office headquarters in Abuja.
He clarified that the new One-Gov Cloud platform aims to assist agencies in transitioning from paper-based systems to automated ones, thereby enhancing secure and efficient operations throughout the Ministry.
Minister Alake credited the remarkable increase in revenue to ongoing sector reforms, propelled by digital tools and new policies, which are positioning the ministry for triple revenue growth among its agencies.
He pointed out that the Mining Cadastre Office alone generated N30 billion for 2025, a significant increase from the N12 billion recorded in 2024, attributing this growth to innovation and dedication within the agency.
The Minister stated: “That is the trajectory we have set for the sector. Mines inspectorate revenue is up, and other revenue departments have also improved.”
He added: “Last year, we recorded about N38 billion. This year, we have already surpassed N50 billion, and we are still counting.”
Minister Alake considered the launch of the One-Gov Cloud to be a significant milestone, stressing that these digital reforms are essential for achieving improved service delivery and enhancing government efficiency.
He emphasized that the sustainability of these reforms will necessitate the right mindset and a nationwide mental shift among staff to effectively safeguard and make the most of the new tools introduced.
According to him, advanced digital equipment requires careful usage by all personnel to prevent damage and protect the substantial investment made by the government.
The Minister praised the performance of the MCO and urged Galaxy Backbone, the technical partner, to quickly address any initial issues to ensure the digital system operates seamlessly.
Mr. Obadiah Nkom, the MCO Managing Director, confirmed that the agency’s N30 billion revenue for 2025 directly reflects sector-wide reforms and the strong support provided by the Ministerial leadership.
He mentioned that this backing has garnered the MCO considerable recognition from various public and private entities, along with several awards for its innovation and digitisation initiatives.
Mr. Nkom expressed gratitude to Galaxy Backbone for supplying the necessary technical support, which ensured the successful and smooth rollout of the One-Gov system.
Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, stated that the MCO is the first department within the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to successfully implement the centralised One-Gov Cloud platform.
He assured that the agency would continue to deliver technical support and required training to MCO staff to enhance the overall effectiveness and utility of the system.
Professor Adeyanju characterized the One-Gov Enterprise Content Management System as a secure resource that will bolster record-keeping procedures and greatly enhance workflow transparency within the Ministry.
