Six Killed in Trailer Collision in Osun

Over the weekend in Osun State, there was chaos following a collision between two trailers on the Imesi-Ile highway. Reports indicate that at least six people lost their lives in the accident involving these two vehicles.

Confirming the incident in a statement released to the press in Osogbo on Sunday, Mrs. Agnes Ogungbemi, the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), explained that the two trailers collided head-on around 9:44 p.m. on Saturday. This collision occurred due to the brake failure of one of the trailers, resulting in the tragic deaths of six individuals.

According to her account, an unmarked articulated vehicle (Red DAF) collided with a blue commercial truck (Mack) on a hill, and the fatalities were attributed to excessive speeding. The FRSC spokesperson added that five of the deceased were swiftly removed from the scene and transported to Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo. Unfortunately, the sixth victim was trapped beneath one of the vehicles, but the commission's personnel were able to free the individual using an extraction machine.

She said, ‘’We have five dead victims taken to the University Teaching Hospital in Osun by the Nigeria Police before the arrival of the FRSC team.”

Ogungbemi noted that the accident involved 17 persons, with 11 of them escaping unhurt. The FRSC command in the state advised drivers to drive with caution and ensure their vehicles were in perfect condition before embarking on any journey.
