Sit-at-home: Soludo shuts down Nnewi spare parts market
The New Auto Spare Parts Association Market in Nkwo Nnewi has been closed by the Anambra State Government. The closure comes after the market did not open for business on Monday as Governor Chukwuma Soludo had instructed.
On Monday, February 23, 2026, at midnight, the closure went into force.
The reopening date of the market is set for Monday, March 2, 2026.
Dr. Law Mefor, the state commissioner for information, claims that the governor's directive to end the Monday sit-at-home in Anambra State was not properly followed.
According to him, Chief Evarist Uba, the Special Advisor to the Governor on Trade and Markets, issued the directive to close the market on the governor's behalf.
In order to prevent problems with law enforcement, traders and customers are encouraged to stay away from the market until Monday of next week.
"If compliance is not significant by next Monday, when the market reopens, the market may face further closure." "Mefor said."
Meanwhile, normal activities resumed in most markets across Anambra State on Mondays after the governor’s order in late January 2026.
