Shell hails Petralon Energy for Dawes Island first oil milestone

Petralon Energy has been praised for developing the Dawes Island Field, with Shell Western Supply and Trading hailing the achievement as evidence of increased confidence in Nigerian local enterprises.

According to a statement from the oil major, the indigenous exploration and production business has proved the ability to acquire, develop, finance, and operate oil and gas assets.

Shell's congratulatory remarks were made at a London event commemorating Petralon Energy's first oil discovery at the Dawes Island field.

Rodrigo Teixeira de Abreu, Chief Executive Officer of Shell Western Supply and Trading, praised Petralon's accomplishments and highlighted the importance of leadership in moving the project from idea to delivery.

The event was attended by Petralon Energy’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Ahonsi Unuigbe; Board Chairman, Mutiu Sunmonu; and Chief Commercial Officer, Uduak Equere.

They verified Petralon Energy's exceptional achievement in bringing the Dawes Island asset from development to production in 2025.

Petralon Energy's first oil success is a significant milestone for both the company and Nigeria's marginal field development.

The accomplishment is viewed as a respectable demonstration of indigenous operators' ability to run allotted assets responsibly and optimally.

"It is important to note that acknowledging the company's quality leadership and disciplined operational process by Shell Trading is not just a commendation, but an explicit expression of trust in the company and implied vote of confidence in our oil sector" , said Quazim Adeniran, its Energy Sector Analyst.
