Power Grid Collapse: TCN Silent Despite DISCOs' Confirmation
The national grid experienced a collapse early on Thursday, September 14, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The national grid, which is operated by TCN from Osogbo in Osun State, went offline at approximately 00:41 AM on Thursday.
Numerous Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have confirmed that their feeders are non-functional, resulting in widespread power outages. Notably, this collapse occurred shortly after TCN celebrated over 400 days of consecutive grid stability on August 29, 2023.
As of the time of reporting, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the TCN Public Affairs General Manager, has not responded to calls or text messages seeking an explanation for the grid's collapse.
Additionally, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has informed its customers about the complete loss of power supply due to the grid collapse. In a message to its customers, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, stated that the system collapse occurred at 12:40 AM on September 14, 2023. As a result, power supply is disrupted in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. EEDC is awaiting detailed information and the restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo.
