Politicians switching to APC aren’t shielded – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption without fear or favor, regardless of party affiliation. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized that the commission will not shield politicians who defect to the ruling party or compromise its mandate in handling corruption cases.

Responding to allegations of shielding politicians who switched allegiance to the ruling party, the EFCC's Director of Legal and Prosecution, Sylvanus Tahir, denied the claims, stating that investigations are ongoing and justice will be served without bias. He urged patience, noting that thorough investigations take time but yield stronger results in court.

Tahir also addressed allegations of unauthorized deductions from recovered funds, describing the claim as false. He explained that the Proceeds of Crime Act only authorizes the President to make statutory deductions following due legislative procedures. The EFCC, he emphasized, operates within the law and does not engage in unauthorized financial deductions or appropriations.
