Nobody committed suicide because of Grok – Musk
Elon Musk has challenged OpenAI's safety strategy, claiming that his own company, xAI, takes safety more seriously.
Musk revealed this information in a recent deposition he filed as part of his legal action against OpenAI.
"Nobody has killed themselves because of Grok, but it seems like they have because of ChatGPT," Musk continued.
The comment was made in response to a public letter Musk signed in March 2023 requesting that AI laboratories put a six-month hold on developing AI systems more sophisticated than OpenAI's flagship model at the time, GPT-4.

AI labs lack adequate planning and oversight, according to the letter, which was signed by more than 1,100 people, many of whom were AI experts. It described the field as being caught in a "out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one, not even their creators, can understand, predict, or reliably control."
Concerns have increased as a result of litigation against OpenAI alleging that ChatGPT's strategies negatively impacted users' mental health and resulted in some suicides. According to Musk's comments, his lawsuit might be supported by these cases.
Ahead of the trial next month, his September video evidence was made public this week.
Musk claims that OpenAI's transition from a nonprofit to a for-profit violates its founding agreements, which is the main subject of his lawsuit against the company.

He contends that the company's business relationships could jeopardise AI safety by putting speed, scale, and profit ahead of caution.
Musk claimed that he signed the AI safety letter "because it seemed like a good idea" in the freshly filed deposition, not because he had just started an AI business to take on OpenAI.
"Like many others, I signed it to urge caution with AI development," Musk stated. "I simply wanted AI safety to be given priority."
But xAI has had its own security problems. Musk's social network X was overrun last month with xAI's Grok-generated, non-consensual nude photos, some of which purportedly featured children.
