Nigerian Bound to UK Fatally Shot During Money Withdrawal in Imo
Wisdom Chukumerem, a 30-year-old Nigerian en route to the UK, was tragically shot and killed during a robbery. Hailing from Awo Ommamma in Imo State, he was gunned down by armed robbers at the World Bank junction roundabout in Owerri while making a withdrawal from a Point Of Sale (POS) terminal.
The father of two was shot three times in the chest. His elder brother, Shedrack, revealed that the attackers accused Wisdom of alerting the police to their presence, leading to his untimely death. Despite his pleas that he wasn't contacting the authorities, the assailants remained unyielding and fatally shot him.
Afterward, Wisdom's body was taken to the Umuguma Specialists General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His brother expressed the family's profound grief, sharing that they have been heavily affected by the tragic loss of their breadwinner.
The family pursued a case with the police, but later decided to withdraw it. Shedrack, with the help of a lawyer, submitted an application to the police to halt the case. The mortuary tally was eventually released to the family, allowing them to proceed with funeral preparations.
Henry Okoye, the state police spokesperson, emphasized that the family's withdrawal of the case wouldn't impede the ongoing investigation. He assured that the police would persist in their efforts to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice for the murder.
This unfortunate incident has left Wisdom's family in deep sorrow, as he was the main source of support for them. The family is now grappling with the loss of a beloved member and striving to come to terms with this tragic event.
