Niger Military Stops Electricity And Water Services to French Embassy in Niamey

Similar measures are being implemented at French consulates located in other cities like Zinder and Dosso.

Elh Issa Hassoumi Boureima, who heads a national support committee, has appealed to partners of French bases in Niger to suspend the provision of water, electricity, and food.

Furthermore, the leaders of the military coup in Niger have issued a warning that aiding France with these supplies would label you as an "enemy of the sovereign people."

This decision by the coup leaders comes after a 48-hour ultimatum for the French ambassador to depart from Niger, which concluded on Sunday.

Diplomatic relations have been strained between Niger, several Western nations, and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) since the coup that took place on July 26.

France, in response to the military's order, stated on Friday that it does not acknowledge the authority of the military and hence, would not comply with the directive regarding its ambassador.

The coup on July 26 resulted in the upheaval of Niger when General Abdourahamane Tchiani ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.
