NPA urges traders to embrace new export channels

In order to reposition Nigeria internationally, traders and investors have been advised by Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, to take advantage of new export routes.

Dantsoho said the authority implemented streamlined procedures to remove long-standing bureaucratic obstacles impeding export participation on Saturday, the 2026 NPA Special Day.

He clarified that the changes were intended to increase non-oil exports, enhance Nigeria's trade balance, and incorporate manufacturers in the hinterland into international supply networks.

Export Process Terminals, which Dantsoho described as one-stop centers for consolidation, stuffing, packaging, paperwork, certification, and electronic scheduling, were identified as a crucial improvement.

The terminals were designed to streamline an export procedure that was previously onerous.

"We encourage the general public to learn more about the NPA's customised, streamlined export procedures as well as additional options.

Through the call-up system, the EPTs are electronically connected with port operations to guarantee quicker cargo evacuation and better turnaround times.

"Now, exporters can easily and effectively finish paperwork, packing, and shipment coordination," Dantsoho said.

According to him, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and the NPA were working together to improve port-hinterland connectivity.

He claims that the collaboration will establish organised routes for SMEs to engage in global trade by connecting EPTs with Domestic Export Warehouses.

Dantsoho maintained that trade remained Nigeria’s most viable instrument for achieving its economic aspirations amid efforts to diversify from oil dependence.
