NNPP drags INEC to election tribunal over missing logo
Wakili Kabiru-Muhammad, the Nasarawa West senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25, has taken the Independent National Electoral Commission to the Election Tribunal over the alleged omission of the party's logo.
Speaking to reporters shortly after filing his petition on Saturday in Lafia, Kabiru-Muhammad claimed that INEC failed to clearly capture the logo of his party on the ballot papers.
The first and second defendants in the case are INEC and Ahmed Aliyu-Wadada of the Social Democratic Party, who was declared the election winner.
He claimed that INEC's omission violated the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution.
As a result, he petitioned the tribunal to annul the election.
The petitioner stated that he approached the tribunal seeking redress because there were numerous irregularities during the elections.
He advised his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while waiting for the tribunal's decision.
Aliyu-Wadada of the SDP received 96,488 votes, while Shehu Tukur of the All Progressive Congress received 47, 717 votes.
