NCAA urges Air Tanzania to support, refund stranded passengers

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has urged Air Tanzania to fulfill its legal responsibilities to passengers who are stranded in Dar es Salaam and Lagos following the airline's failure to operate its scheduled flights.

In a statement released on Saturday, Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, reminded the airline that passengers experiencing significant delays are entitled to accommodations, meals, and regular updates as stipulated in Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

He mentioned that multiple Nigerian passengers stranded in Dar es Salaam had expressed concerns, including one individual who needs to attend a visa interview on Monday.

He also stated that if the airline is unable to operate its flights over the weekend, it should either provide refunds or rebook the affected passengers on alternative carriers.

“While the NCAA is ready to assist you in any way possible, we would appreciate your adherence to the regulations.

"We have communicated the consequences of a technical issue to your passengers, and they recognize that safety is the priority. Please treat them with the respect and care they deserve,” he stated.

Additionally, the NCAA urged Air Tanzania to extend the same level of support to passengers stranded in Lagos for the outbound flight, noting that they are in communication with travelers in both locations.
