Multiple Electrocutions Reported at Amaechi-School Road Junction in Rivers State
Reports from Rumuosi, located along the East-West Road in Rivers State's Obio-Akpor local government area, tell of a tragic incident where an undetermined number of individuals were fatally electrocuted at the Amaechi-School Road junction.
Differing accounts have emerged regarding the toll of the electrocution, with some sources claiming the loss of more than six lives, while others assert five casualties. Numerous victims also suffered varying degrees of injuries in the electrocution event.
Eyewitnesses recount that the victims were attempting to install a church billboard at the junction when an iron component came into contact with a high-tension pole. Fatally, some victims were instantly claimed by the mishap, while others were transported to a medical facility, where a physician pronounced them deceased.
The Rivers State Police Command has acknowledged the occurrence and initiated an ongoing investigation into the matter.
In the midst of this, the Rivers State Signage and Advertising Agency (RISAA) clarified that they had no prior knowledge of the billboard installation. RISAA reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding rigorous standards in authorizing external signage and billboards across the state.
Okechukwu Edenkwo, Head of Mobile Advertising at RISAA, emphasized the agency's determination to preserve standards and professionalism. He expressed concern over unauthorized signage and structures, and extended heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims affected by Monday's electrocution tragedy.
