Man from Akwa Ibom allegedly murders own son, disposes of charred remains in a pit latrine

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the apprehension of Innocent Uko on suspicion of murdering his 26-year-old son, Boniface. The alleged incident occurred as Boniface was harvesting cassava on Uko's farm.

Hailing from Ebe Ikpe village within the Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state, Uko was taken into custody by law enforcement officers following reports filed by the village head, Chief Akpan Aniekan, and council chairman, Sylvester Akpan.

SP Odiko Macdon, the State Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information with the press in Uyo, the state's capital, on Tuesday.

Macdon revealed that the accused had admitted to using a machete to kill his son and subsequently disposed of his body by burning it and placing it in an abandoned pit toilet within his compound in an attempt to cover up the crime.

According to him, Chief Akpan Aniekan, the village head of Ebe Ikpe village, accompanied by Sylvester Akpan, the village council chairman, provided information stating that Innocent Uko from Ebe Ikpe village in the Essien Udim Local Government Area, had utilized a machete to fatally wound his 26-year-old son, Boniface. The alleged perpetrator then proceeded to incinerate the victim's body and dispose of the remains within an unused pit toilet on his property, in an attempt to obscure the crime.

He mentioned that the accused employed his 10-year-old younger sibling to entice the targets, who happened to be his fellow students, out of their classroom, facilitating their abduction.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) stated that, upon the conclusion of the investigations, legal charges would be pressed against all the suspects in a court of law.
