Man arrested by Plateau police for severing farmer's hand

The Plateau State Police Command has reported the apprehension of a herdsman named Abdulrahman Kaila, who stands accused of severing a farmer's hand in the Lakushi community within the Shendam Local Government Area of the state.

A video depicting the farmer holding his severed right hand, with blood dripping onto the ground, circulated on social media last week.

In the brief video, the victim can be heard explaining to some individuals that a herder had amputated his hand after he had requested the herder to relocate his cattle from his farmland.

Alabo Alfred, the State Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed that preparations have been finalized to bring the suspect to court for arraignment.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) stated, "We have apprehended the individual responsible for severing another person's hand. He is currently in our custody. Our intelligence network played a crucial role in his arrest; he was not cooperative in surrendering voluntarily. We are implementing a strategic approach, the details of which we won't divulge.

Upon receiving the information, the state Commissioner of Police directed the District Police Officer (DPO) to swiftly pursue the perpetrator. Thanks to the prompt response by the DPO, the suspect was apprehended. He provided an explanation for his actions in cutting off the farmer's hand.

All I can share at this moment is that the investigation has been concluded, and we plan to file charges against the suspect in court either tomorrow (Monday) or on Tuesday."
