Man Arrested with Human Skull Confesses to Month-long Bathing Ritual
Franklin Akinyosuyi, a 26-year-old photographer and boutique owner, was apprehended in Ondo town, Ondo State, after possessing a human skull in his apartment. Akinyosuyi admitted to using the skull for a peculiar bathing ritual over the course of a month. The ritual, suggested by a herbalist, involved bathing with the skull every Thursday at 1 am in an attempt to enhance his business prospects.
During an interview with journalists while being paraded alongside his associates at the state police headquarters in Akure, Akinyosuyi recounted the series of events that led to his arrest. The landlord had reported the discovery of the human skull in the Eleworo area of the community, prompting the police involvement.
Akinyosuyi explained that he had sought help from the herbalist due to the slow progress of his photography and boutique business. After paying the herbalist N200,000 for a concoction, he was instructed to use the human skull in the bathing ritual. However, after a month of adherence, he saw no improvement and requested a refund from the herbalist, who started repaying him. Attempting to dispose of the skull, he left it in his backyard, inadvertently triggering his landlord's discovery and subsequent police intervention.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, revealed that five individuals were allegedly involved in the matter. While three suspects, including Akinyosuyi, were apprehended, two others were still at large. The investigation led to the identification and arrest of an evangelist named Oyegoke Dare and an herbalist named Oyelade Sarafa, both implicated in providing the skull and fetish materials. Another two individuals mentioned in connection with the case remain unidentified and at large.
