Lagos commissioner urges youths to lead digital transformation

Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, has called on Nigerian youths to fully own the nation’s digital transformation, urging them to move from merely using technology to creating it. “Don’t wait for the future; build it. Don’t just consume technology; create it,” he said, encouraging young people to become innovators and leaders in Nigeria’s evolving digital space.

The appeal came in a statement issued by the convener of Web3 in Motion, Samuel Oladokun, and made available to NigerianWatch Online on Friday. Oladokun noted that the commissioner’s message underscored the vital role youths must play in shaping the country’s digital future.

The event, held in Lagos under the theme “Web3 in Motion: From Pipelines to Platforms,” gathered speakers and participants from government, decentralised finance, regulation, and community development. Oladokun, popularly known as XeusTheGreat and founder of Nirvana Academy, added that the theme highlighted the need for Africans to lead in the global digital economy. “Excellence is what puts you on global platforms,” he said, urging participants to prioritise collaboration, innovation, and education beyond profit‑making. “You can’t build a global platform in isolation. You have to step out, physically and digitally,” he added.

The conference featured over 30 speakers and exhibitors across sectors, including SEC Director‑General Dr Emomotimi Agama, Jeroid CEO Jeremiah Mayowa, Hyperbridge Co‑founder Seun Lanlege, and Cake Wallet Mobile Engineer David Adegoke. Agama encouraged attendees to strengthen technical capacity and legal literacy, stressing the government’s commitment to a globally recognised digital economy: “Learn to code solidly, study digital laws, and understand decentralised finance.”

The event was coordinated by a five‑member organising team led by Oladokun, comprising Sarah Idahosa (Programmes Director), Idris Olubisi (Partnership Director), Amarachi Nwachukwu (Marketing Lead), Oreoluwa Zebulun Ajayi (Creative Director), and Obembe Oluwatobiloba (Logistics Lead).
