LASAA staff cleared of fraud, sanctioned for no-cash policy breach
The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) has cleared one of its staff members, Olukayode John Adetifa, of fraudulent transaction allegations that went viral on social media. However, Adetifa will still face disciplinary action for violating the agency's "no cash" policy and using his personal account for a transaction. The controversy began when a social media post alleged that Adetifa collected ₦45,000 from a client, MJ Beauty Salon, via his personal Opay account but only issued a receipt for ₦7,100. LASAA launched an investigation, which found that Adetifa had collected ₦40,000 from the client to cover fees for three signs. He registered the signs online and issued a receipt for ₦7,140.
The client, MJ Beauty Salon, confirmed Adetifa's version of events, stating that she was unaware of the viral post and apologized for the misunderstanding. She also denied giving Adetifa any gratification.
While Adetifa was cleared of fraudulent intent, LASAA stated that he had committed a serious offense by collecting client's money in his personal account, contrary to the agency's policy. The agency emphasized its commitment to transparency and strict adherence to its policies.
