Joe Igbokwe criticizes Ekweremadu's son for extravagant wedding celebration

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has voiced his disapproval of the lavish wedding ceremony held by Lloyd Ekweremadu, the son of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu. The event took place while Lloyd's parents are incarcerated in the United Kingdom.

Lloyd tied the knot with Tiffany Adaobi Obinna-Uzor at the Basilica of Grace, Anglican Communion, Gudu District, Abuja, on Saturday.

Responding to Lloyd's wedding, Igbokwe expressed his thoughts on his Facebook page, labeling the ceremony as extravagant. He further noted that the son of the former Senator displayed insensitivity towards his incarcerated parents' predicament.

The APC leader suggested that Lloyd should have organized a modest wedding and saved the grand celebration for when his parents were released from prison.

Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, are currently incarcerated in a UK prison following their conviction by a London court in May. The conviction stemmed from their attempt to assist their ailing daughter, Sonia, through organ trafficking.

They were sentenced alongside an intermediary, Dr. Obinna Obeta, who was involved in the attempted organ harvest operation on David Ukpo Nwamini, a boy trafficked from Lagos to London.

Ekweremadu received a sentence of nine years and eight months, while his wife was given a four-year and six-month sentence. The doctor was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Reflecting on the situation concerning their son's wedding, Igbokwe commented, "If I were Ekweremmadu's son, I would have chosen a more subdued wedding ceremony, considering my parents' incarceration. I would have opted for a low-key marriage event and waited until my parents regained their freedom. The values of this generation truly concern me," he added.
