Immigration sacks 31 officers over various misconduct offences
The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has approved disciplinary measures against 31 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service. The sanctions, which include dismissals, retirements, demotions, and warnings, are a result of various offenses committed by the officers.According to the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the board's decision underscores its commitment to enforcing discipline, integrity, and accountability within the service. Eight officers were dismissed for serious misconduct, while five others were compulsorily retired for misconduct-related offenses. Additionally, eight officers were demoted, and five received written warnings.
The board also reviewed appeals from previously dismissed officers, upholding the dismissal of two officers while reinstating one and exonerating two others. In a separate incident, two junior personnel were dismissed for criminal conspiracy, stealing, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping.
The disciplinary actions were taken under the supervision of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap. The Nigeria Immigration Service has assured the public that it remains committed to maintaining high ethical and professional standards, implementing disciplinary actions without fear or favor, and in strict compliance with rules and regulations.
