Husband distressed as wife remains captive despite ransom
Mathew Oladokun, the husband of abducted businesswoman Risikat Oladokun, expressed frustration over the Nigeria Police's failure to rescue her despite paying N5 million ransom to the abductors.
Speaking to our correspondent on Monday, Oladokun stated that the police seemed to have abandoned the search for his wife, while the abductors demanded more ransom. Risikat was kidnapped by gunmen at her residence in Awa Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, on March 12 while returning from work. Oladokun criticized the police for the prolonged abduction and the abductors' refusal to release his wife even after paying the ransom.
Oladokun disclosed, "The abductors have extorted over N5 million from us as ransom for my wife's release, who was abducted over a month ago, yet they persist in demanding more money. They've denied us any contact with her since her abduction. We're unaware of her current condition; they simply demand additional funds. It happened suddenly as we were entering our compound. About five gunmen targeted us, initially attacking me. Two of them, armed, then confined me and our children inside while they abducted my wife."
Describing the harrowing ordeal, Oladokun recounted, "They confiscated both our phones, some cash, and our ATM cards. Emptying our bank accounts, they've been incessantly demanding ransom from the family." Initially asking for N15 million, we explained we couldn't afford such a sum. Initially, we sent N1.2 million, followed by N2.2 million, and subsequently more. Despite this, they persist in demanding additional funds and refuse to release her."
He added that the incident was reported to the police and subsequently transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit. "However," he lamented, "no significant progress has been made to ensure my wife's safe return."
Oladokun made a plea to the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, urging collaboration with other security agencies to expedite his wife's safe release.
When reached for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Omolola Odutola, responded, "This is an ongoing case. I've been unable to contact the Divisional Police Officer for an update." She pledged to provide an update to our correspondent but did not do so at the time of reporting.
