Flight operations now risky in Sudan
The Federal Government has stated that the ongoing crisis in Sudan is making evacuation of stranded Nigerians difficult.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, stated that while the Nigerian Mission in Sudan and the National Emergency Management Agency had made arrangements to evacuate Nigerians, any flight operating during this period of war was risky.
This was stated in a statement signed on Friday by Gabriel Odu of NIDCOM's Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit.
"Dabiri-Erewa has stated that while the Nigerian Mission in Sudan and NEMA have put in place arrangements to evacuate Nigerian students and other Nigerian citizens stranded in Sudan, the tense situation makes any flight gravely risky and impossible at this point in time, noting that aircrafts parked at the country's airport were burnt yesterday morning," the statement read.
"Dabiri-Erewa stated that Humanitarian Organizations were looking for ways to get food, water, and medical supplies to people.
"She therefore appealed to the fighting parties to consider the Juba Peace Agreement, as enunciated by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, as a fundamental mechanism for the restoration of peace and tranquility in the country."
