Fire rocks Lagos airport terminal, no injuries reported

A fire at Lagos's Murtala Muhammed International Airport's Terminal One was reported by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Monday.

FAAN reports that its firefighting crew is aggressively attempting to contain the fire and that no casualties have been reported.

According to the service, efforts are being made to contain the situation by the firefighting squad.

"At the moment, our firefighting crew is responding and attempting to contain the issue. According to the authority, no fatalities have been reported.

FAAN added in a subsequent statement that both passengers and airport employees are still being evacuated.

The agency added that it has requested reinforcements from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria, and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.

While the orderly evacuation of travellers and airport staff is underway, emergency response operations are still underway as our firefighting teams work to completely contain and reduce the fire.

FAAN has appealed for reinforcements from the Lagos State Government, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, and other pertinent emergency agencies in order to bolster response efforts. FAAN has also activated mutual aid agreements.

"We want to reassure the public that no fatalities have been reported as of yet, and that every precaution is being taken to protect people and property," FAAN stated.

Both the entire extent of the damage and the origin of the fire are still unknown.
