Father Grieves Over Nine-Year-Old Son's Disappearance in Lagos
Olasunkanmi Adeyemi, the father of nine-year-old Emmanuel Adeyemi, expresses sorrow over the unexpected disappearance of his child in Lagos. Adeyemi reveals that his child went missing during an evangelical outreach in the Orile-Agege area of the state on November 19, causing distress and agony for his family.
Adeyemi recounted, "Three weeks ago, on a Sunday, we participated in an evangelism outreach with a church where we gather for prayers. While in church, my wife brought our son, Emmanuel, to me. I escorted him to the bus where the other children were located. I settled him, then quickly left to purchase a drink for him due to his illness. There were several other children besides mine in the bus. After providing him with the drink, I joined the bus for our journey. Their bus led the way, and ours followed."
Upon reaching a location, we received powdered milk, prompting me to visit the bus where I left my son. However, upon repeatedly calling his name, I was informed that Emmanuel was not in the bus. Astonished, I inquired with the driver about my son's location. He informed me that a woman had taken some children to another bus.
According to the driver, it appeared that some children had been transported to a church, and he suggested I check there for my son. Despite my efforts at the church, I couldn't locate him. People mentioned that some children were searching for their parents, but, unfortunately, my son was not among them. It felt surreal to me. On the same day, both the driver and I hailed a tricycle to report the incident to the police station.
Adeyemi revealed that he reported the case to the Elere Police Station in the Agege area of Lagos State. However, the police have not been able to determine the whereabouts of the missing boy since then.
He expressed, "Even as I am talking to you right now, I am sick, feeling dizzy, and devastated. I'm not myself unless I find my child." He mentioned that his wife had recently been discharged from the hospital following the unfortunate incident.
Despite attempts to contact the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, through phone calls and messages, there was no response as of the time of this report.
However, a police source familiar with the incident confirmed that the child was missing, and an investigation was underway to locate him. The source stated, "It is true that the boy is missing, and an investigation is ongoing to ascertain his whereabouts. The boy's parents have been summoned to the headquarters for further questioning."
