FG confirms US airstrikes on terrorists, cites intelligence cooperation
Nigeria and the US have confirmed ongoing security and intelligence cooperation, leading to precision airstrikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria's North West. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that Nigerian authorities are working closely with international partners, including the US, to address terrorism and violent extremism ³.The collaboration involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support, respecting Nigeria's sovereignty and international law. US President Donald Trump announced the airstrikes, targeting Islamic State militants killing Christians in Nigeria. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth thanked Nigeria for its cooperation, saying "more to come" ⁵.
The airstrikes follow a bomb attack on a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, killing five people and injuring dozens, suspected to be a suicide bombing.
