The Federal Government has officially launched the revamped 6.7-kilometre Port Harcourt Road in Aba, representing a significant achievement in Abia State’s ongoing efforts to renew infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.President Bola Tinubu, represented by Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, praised the project’s completion as a “miracle” achieved through the partnership of the Federal Government, the Abia State Government, and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
He also acknowledged Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for his commitment to infrastructure improvement and the high standards of work accomplished on the project.
Tinubu remarked that the successful completion of the road project demonstrated what could be achieved through effective leadership, engineering excellence, and transparency working in tandem.
He stated, “The joint efforts of the government and contractor have resulted in the miracle of transformation we are witnessing today, not just in Aba but throughout the entire state. This road represents a beacon of renewed hope and the effectiveness of purposeful governance.”
The President further commended Governor Otti for his dedication to infrastructure development and for establishing Abia State as an exemplar of progress and accountability.
Previously, the Director of Administration at Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Abdulaziz Kaita, mentioned that the revamped Port Harcourt Road signifies more than mere asphalt and concrete, calling it a “lifeline for commerce and connectivity.”
He continued, “This project connects markets to manufacturers, neighborhoods to opportunities, and Aba to the larger economy of the South-East and the Niger Delta. For many years, residents faced issues like flooding, traffic jams, vehicle damage, and wasted productive time using this route.
“The inauguration of this reconstructed road signifies a transition from chronic disruption to dependable mobility, and from temporary fixes to strategic resilience.”
