FCT NSCDC issues a warning about a deceptive Facebook account issues a warning about a deceptive Fac

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command has issued a public warning regarding the existence of a counterfeit Facebook account falsely attributed to the agency by scammers.

The Commandant of FCT NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, has declared that the account is unauthorized and deceptive. He has issued a warning to the general public to steer clear of this account, as it has defrauded unsuspecting individuals, including friends, family members, colleagues, and associates of the Commandant, starting from August 15th, 2023.

According to a statement from the Command's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Comfort Okomanyi, Odumosu revealed that the fraudulent account had managed to add over two thousand, five hundred (2,500) people as friends on the counterfeit Facebook account.

"The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has brought to the attention of Olusola Odumosu reports regarding the existence of a fraudulent Facebook account falsely opened by scammers using his name."

"The unauthorized and deceptive Facebook account was initiated by impostors immediately after the assumption of office by the FCT Commandant on August 15, 2023. This account has, regrettably, been employed to perpetrate fraudulent activities, victimizing unsuspecting individuals, including friends, family members, colleagues, and associates of the Commandant.

"As of the time of this report, the fraudster had amassed a friend list of over two thousand, five hundred (2,500) individuals on the fictitious Facebook account.

"According to reliable sources, the imposter assumes the identity of the FCT Commandant by randomly selecting his images from online sources. The fraudster continuously updates the Facebook page to create the illusion that it is being operated by the Commandant.

"The statement further disclosed that the scammer has been engaging gullible victims, particularly NSCDC personnel, through conversations and chats via Facebook Messenger. The scam promises them opportunities for foreign training in Canada, where they would receive payment in dollars, along with other enticing offers. All that was required was a certain amount of money as an 'incentive' to the Commandant.

"These victims were subsequently directed to contact an individual named Deputy Commandant of Corps, DCC Benson Odoh, who is neither known nor existing in reality. They were told to contact him for the proper documentation and processing of their overseas training after making a payment of N6000 as a recharge card fee."

"The public is hereby issued a stern warning against falling prey to these criminals who are posing as the FCT Commandant on social media platforms with the sinister aim of defrauding innocent individuals.

"It is crucial for the public to recognize that the Facebook account in question is fraudulent and has not been created or authorized by the genuine FCT Commandant. Consequently, anyone who finds themselves added to this account is strongly advised to take immediate action by reporting the page to Facebook as a deceptive account and subsequently unfriending or disassociating from it.

"Furthermore, individuals are emphatically discouraged from offering any monetary payments or inducements in exchange for the supposed favors or assistance that the fraudster may falsely claim to provide.

"We, therefore, kindly implore conscientious Nigerians or anyone possessing valuable information regarding the identity of the person behind this deceptive Facebook account to either approach the FCT Command directly or send an anonymous message to aid in unveiling the imposter.

"The FCT Commandant upholds principles and integrity and remains wholly dedicated to fulfilling his constitutional duties and achieving the objectives of the Corps within the FCT. Consequently, he cannot be associated with such fraudulent activities," the statement concludes.
