FAAN to end cash payments at airports from March 1
With effect from Sunday, March 1, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has declared that it will no longer take cash payments at any of its locations, including executive lounges, parking lots, and entrance gates.
FAAN made the announcement in a statement on Friday.
The authority claims that the regulation is a component of its "Go Cashless" campaign, which aims to encourage quicker, safer, and entirely digital transactions at all airports.
The statement claims that all travellers and airport guests are now required to pay digitally at airports under FAAN management.
Access gate admission, parking fees, and fees for executive and VIP lounge services are all covered by the order.

The move is consistent with the Central Bank of Nigeria's stance encouraging cashless transactions across all public services, according to FAAN.
As to the Central Bank of Nigeria's directive, cash would no longer be accepted at any FAAN pay station as of March 1st, 2026. This implies that every transaction at all of our domestic and international airports, including access gates, parking lots, and executive lounge entrances, must be digital, the statement stated in part.
In order to take advantage of the "Tap and Go" system, which facilitates quicker transactions and helps shorten lines, passengers are urged to pick up their payment cards at entrance gates and lounges.
Additionally, the authorities reassured visitors that the cashless system is safe and intended to improve ease in all airport amenities.
