Ezekwesili Slams Senate's Justification for N57.6 Billion Luxury Vehicles as 'Utterly Disgraceful
Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education, has strongly criticized Sunday Karimi, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, for justifying the planned purchase of N57.6 billion luxury vehicles for lawmakers. Karimi had defended the decision, citing durability and maintenance for four years as reasons.
In response, Ezekwesili described Karimi's justification as "disgraceful and disgusting," expressing her disappointment in the lack of wisdom displayed by Nigerian lawmakers. She pointed out that Nigeria's democracy can only thrive when individuals like Karimi, who view public office as an opportunity for extravagance and corruption, are not elected.
Ezekwesili emphasized the insensitivity of spending public resources on luxury vehicles for lawmakers at a time of national financial distress. She called attention to the scriptures and urged the lawmakers to reflect on the wisdom they lack in making such decisions.
Furthermore, she highlighted her investigation into Senator Sunday Karimi's antecedents on the internet, revealing a lack of significant contributions or achievements beyond his statements justifying the use of public funds for luxury SUVs. Ezekwesili called for enlightened, empowered, and engaged citizens to ensure that individuals with such perspectives do not hold public office.
