El-Rufai remains banned for 30 years, SDP chairs insist
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reaffirmed that former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, remains banned from the party for 30 years. The party's Forum of 37 State Chairmen made this declaration amid rumors that El-Rufai was planning to return to the party ahead of its next national convention. The forum's Chairman, Femi Olaniyi, stated that El-Rufai's expulsion, ratified by the National Working Committee, is final and non-negotiable ¹.The SDP had previously expelled El-Rufai in July, citing his attempts to join the party through the "back door" and his alleged involvement in manipulating internal party structures. The party accused El-Rufai of falsely claiming membership, forging documents, and engaging in unconstitutional actions.
The ban, which lasts until July 28, 2055, bars El-Rufai from applying for membership, identifying with the party's name, insignia, logo, or participating in any party affairs. The SDP has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant institutions of El-Rufai's non-member status.
