Delta Hospital Detains Mother of Quadruplets Due to Unsettled N4 Million Bill

After a 12-year delay, a housewife in Delta State successfully gave birth to quadruplets through a Caesarean Section at a private hospital in Effurun. However, she is currently confined to the hospital due to the family's inability to settle the medical bill of N4 million.

This information was conveyed in an open letter titled 'A Call for Urgent Help!' released on behalf of the family by Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, the National Coordinator of No Justice, No Peace Initiative. Copies of the letter were distributed to journalists in Warri, Delta State, on Wednesday.

As per the letter, the recent mother, Mrs. Gladys Okodo Omodiagbe, a member of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, situated along Water Resources in Effurun, originates from the Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State. Her husband, Mr. Amos Omodiagbe, is originally from Edo State but has been residing in Delta State for over a decade.

The letter clarified that the quadruplets have been placed in an incubator since October 21, 2023, when they were born, incurring a daily service cost of N20,000 per child, amounting to N80,000 for all four of them.

“They were placed in the incubator on October 21, 2023, and remained there until a few days ago, at which point three were removed, leaving only the fourth baby.

“All four babies were delivered prematurely via Caesarean Section around October 2023, necessitating their placement in the incubator.”

Agberen appealed to compassionate Nigerians to come forward and assist the mother of the quadruplets, allowing the family to settle the hospital bills.

He emphasized the critical nature of the assistance required to address the situation, stating, "It is crucial for me to alert the public to the predicament of a devoted Christian family."

A portion of the letter states, "Despite this joyous news, there is significant concern among all caring individuals about the challenges faced by the Omodiagbe family. Since the birth of their children, their very survival is at risk, involving fundamental human rights."

"The unexpected arrival of quadruplets brought joy to the Omodiagbe family, but the ensuing financial strain has become a significant concern. The family is currently unable to meet the hospital expenses for the newborns, necessitating urgent financial aid from the public in this critical situation.

They are urgently seeking a total of N4,000,050, having already paid N1,598,000 towards the actual N5,598,050 required to cover the bills.

The quadruplets, placed in an incubator since October 21, 2023, incur a daily service cost of N20,000.00 per child, totaling N80,000.00 for all four. While three have been removed from the incubator recently, one remains.

It is crucial to note that these expenses are separate from the costs associated with the mother's delivery and Caesarean Section treatment. The hospital in question is Coastal Specialist Clinic, located at 39, 19th Street, Bendel Estate, Warri, Delta State."

"The hospital staff, including the doctors, have demonstrated remarkable compassion, showing no signs of inhumanity towards the family.

However, this display of empathy from the hospital management does not absolve the family from the responsibility of settling their bills promptly.

Caring for a child involves a myriad of financial, physical, and emotional challenges, especially when dealing with twins, triplets, quadruplets, or more," he expressed.

"I earnestly appeal to everyone to acknowledge the family's plight and offer support to help them meet the financial demands of providing childcare for some time."
