A Tussle for Custody: Drama Unfolds at Lagos Federal High Court as DSS and Nigeria Correctional Service Clash Over Godwin Emefiele's Detention

In a recent court session, a mild drama unfolded at the Federal High Court in Lagos when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and officials from the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) found themselves in a heated dispute over who would have custody of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele had been arraigned by the Federal Ministry of Justice on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, but he pleaded "not guilty" and was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety.

As the defendant's lawyers were working to fulfill his bail conditions, tensions rose within the court premises between the fully hooded DSS operatives and the NCS, each vying for the responsibility of housing the embattled CBN boss.

Amid Court Drama, Hilux Vehicles from Government Agencies Guard Court Entrance

During the court proceedings, two Hilux vehicles, one from each government agency, were stationed near the court's entrance, adding to the tense atmosphere.

Interestingly, the prison service went a step further, bringing dogs onto the court premises for reasons yet to be disclosed.

Reports indicate that there are rumors circulating about the Department of State Services (DSS) operatives' intentions to potentially rearrest Emefiele, despite the court granting him bail. However, these speculations have not been confirmed yet.
