Court fixes May 30 for continuation of Ali Bello's trial
The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the continuation of the trial of Ali Bello and three others over an alleged N3 billion fraud charge filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for May 30 and 31.
The prosecution, led by Rotimi Oyedepo SAN, called their first witness, Nicholas Oyemomoni of the American International School, Abuja, during Tuesday's proceeding.
However, the witness was unable to finish his testimony because the defense team, led by Abubakar Aliyu, SAN, objected to the documents that the EFCC sought to tender in evidence through the witness.
He requested that the court grant him the right to object to the final written address while admitting the documents provisionally.
However, prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, argued that the documents could not be admitted provisionally.
As a result, Aliyu petitioned the court to allow him to address his objections to the documents before they were admitted into evidence.
He requested that the court grant him the opportunity to argue his objection at the next adjourned date.
As a result, Justice Obiora Egwuatu adjourned the case to May 30 and 31, 2023 for further proceedings.
Earlier in February, the court granted bail to Ali Bello and three others for N500 million.
